How to Think Positively and Achieve Goals in 2015

There’s an axiom on posters in nearly every elementary school in the United States, and it goes something like this: “Your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude.”

It’s one of life’s lessons that’s all about the power of a positive attitude. It’s guided some of the most successful people in history, from Steve Jobs to Michael Jordan to Mark Cuban. And it’s a lesson worth taking to heart–especially when life starts to get a little overwhelming.


But sometimes, when life is kicking you in the teeth, creating and keeping a positive attitude is easier said than done, right? Life sometimes has a way of kicking you around from time to time, month to month, year to year.

So, what’s the key to developing a positive mental attitude in 2015? It’s to have a plan:

Recognize your power. You might not be a superhero, but you do have superhero-like powers–in your mind. The first step toward developing a perpetual positive attitude is to accept that you are responsible for how your mindset. You have the power to decide to be happy, proud, strong and confident regardless of who’s around or what they’re doing.

Memorize (and believe) seven words. If it’s good enough for the Declaration of Independence, it’s good enough for you. So memorize these words: “All men (and women) are created equal.” Once you do, you can walk into any situation with a positive attitude because you will know that you are not defined by the opinions of others. The only opinion that will truly matter will be yours.

Play it cool. Remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint. So keep your eye on the big picture. Set goals, review them frequently and don’t sweat the small stuff. Seriously, you’ll face challenges every day, week, month and year during your life. Don’t overreact to every challenge. Play it cool and move on.
